Role and Appearances[edit | edit source]

The Legend of Zelda has made five unconventional cameos in Dark Harvest. It appears that Chris and Alex and a number of supporting characters are fans of the franchise and avidly play the games. Its significance is a subject of debate.

Log Entry 4
(0:40) Chris plays Ocarina of Time Master Quest on Nintendo GameCube and appears to have made it to the Dodongo's Cavern dungeon. When Alex arrives, he takes over playing the game and wanders about Death Mountain. When Alex examines Link's inventory and notices several useful items are missing, he laughs and openly notes Chris' incompetence with the game.
Log Entry 15
(1:55) Chris, Alex, and Jesse plays Majora's Mask on Nintendo 64. Alex proclaims that this installment is one of his favorite games. At one point, Alex says he intends to complete the Great Bay Temple, but Jesse replies by saying "Fuck the Water Temple!". When the boys fall asleep, the game is left idle and unpaused while Link is interacting with the Happy Mask Salesman inside the Clock Tower. The music creates a chilling atmosphere when Kind von der Ritter enters the room.
Interview with Heather McComber
(7:35) While Chris and Alex interview Heather at Starbucks, a person's cellphone message tone goes off and it is the iconic secret unlock jingle which is featured in every installment of the Zelda franchise.
Log Entry 21
(6:57) When Chris enters Heather's room to look for her chest, the file select screen from either "Ocarina of Time" or "Majora's Mask" is shown on a small television.
Greg's Final Log
(0:26) Just before Jeff confronts Greg about his Order belongings, the latter is shown playing The Wind Waker on Nintendo Gamecube. He is in the Forbidden Woods dungeon.
